About me

I am a designer based in Montreal with a background in Architecture, Web design and Graphic design.

My Journey

I always knew I wanted to create things, as a younger tinier Gillian I was obsessed with crafts and making things with my hands. Scholastically I had a leaning towards Math and Physics which transitioned into Architecture, merging my logical bent and love of creating.
 

After Cegep I ventured to explore my artistic side further by completing a Bachelors of Art at Concordia University. Graphic design was an automatic fit after joyfully exploring many artistic mediums.
 

Graphic design suited me well since it utilized my strengths in critical and creative thinking. My love of problem solving and story telling has been an inspiration throughout my design journey.

Design
Philosophy

I view design as a puzzle yet to be solved. There is a moment when you have collected all the needed, chosen and inspirational elements for a design and you just dive in. Manipulating, modifying, rearranging and minimizing until everything becomes a unified piece that communicates to people. Such a gratifying process – Beauty and meaning found from chaos.

I’ve always had an innate ability to visualize a design concept based on a clients needs and wants. I don’t think much about it, it comes naturally and I believe that is the best way to do it, it’s more authentic and less calculated.

At Work
and at play

I’m a quick learner and innately curious. I’ve worked for quite a few boutique agencies and small businesses, and as a result have continually worn many hats to cover a variety of needs. My array of hats have included art direction, project management, graphic design, web design and web development (I’m not quite a programmer but I do my best when needed). Multitasking and autonomously learning new things has been a large part of my growth as a designer.

In my free time you will find me spending time with my husband and raising my two beautiful kids. Any extra time after that (if any!) you will find my nose buried in a book, consumed by an unfolding narrative, or with a paint brush in hand playing on a canvas.
